About the Artist

Patricia Baynes spent her youth in Galway city. After graduating from National University of Ireland Galway, with an Arts Degree, Patricia continued with post graduate studies in textile design and in Fine Art. Patricia also signs herself Patricia McDonnell Baynes to honour her parents. From them she has an enduring love for Co. Mayo in the West of Ireland. She has a preference for oil painting but continues with her other interest in Tapestry design and execution. She works in Bray, Co. Wicklow and beside the waters of the Royal Canal at Balroe north west of Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. She has had successful solo exhibitions and also works to commission. Patricia has works in public and in private collections.

Statement by the Artist

Photo of the Artist Patricia Baynes
I find the broad landscapes and wide skies a restful counterpoint to city living. The colours in nature and the endless variety of natural forms are a constant inspiration. Light on water is a frequent theme and the wide skies of the Midlands and the West reflected in the many lakes and watermargins there is a favourite subject. The shape and colour of natural forms and found objects are explored in my still life work. Their constant variety is a joy.
